Vienna Crime Museum

The Vienna Crime Museum (Kriminalmuseum Wien) offers a dark journey through the city’s criminal past. Located in a former poorhouse and courthouse in the Leopoldstadt district, the museum traces the evolution of crime and law enforcement in Austria from the Middle Ages to the present day.

The collection spans more than 500 years of history, displaying authentic documents, weapons, instruments of torture, execution devices, and forensic evidence. Visitors encounter everything from medieval punishments and witch trials to the sensational crimes of the 19th and 20th centuries — including murders, political assassinations, and infamous serial killers.
