Torre Salvana

Torre Salvana, located beside Colònia Güell just outside Barcelona, is a crumbling medieval fortress with a reputation as one of Catalonia’s most haunted ruins. Originally constructed in the 10th century to guard the region, the tower and its adjoining structures later served as a noble residence and defensive outpost. Today, only stark stone walls remain, overgrown and exposed to the elements.

The fortress is locally nicknamed “el castillo del infierno” (the castle of hell), due to countless ghost stories and alleged paranormal phenomena reported on the site. Visitors claim to hear disembodied voices, footsteps, and screams within the ruins, and many paranormal investigators have visited Torre Salvana to document its eerie atmosphere. Legends suggest that its violent past — including battles, sieges, and executions — left behind restless spirits.

While it is an open ruin and freely accessible, Torre Salvana’s desolate state, graffiti-covered walls, and brooding presence make it a chilling experience, especially after dark. Whether seen as a historical remnant of medieval Catalonia or as a magnet for ghost hunters, the site embodies the sinister allure of abandoned places.
