The Statue of Vlad Țepeș stands inside the Sighișoara Citadel, commemorating the Wallachian ruler best known internationally as Vlad the Impaler. The monument presents Vlad not as a vampire or fictional monster, but as a stern medieval prince, emphasising authority, vigilance, and control rather than horror.
Sighișoara is closely linked to Vlad’s early life, as his father Vlad II Dracul is documented as having lived in the citadel during the early 15th century. The statue reinforces this historical association, grounding Vlad in the physical landscape of the town rather than in later gothic reinterpretations.
