Slasher World

Slasher World is a year-round horror retail and community venue in Los Angeles, combining merchandise with walk-through environments designed for photo-ops and atmosphere. The interior is staged with life-size figures, props, and scene-like displays referencing slasher cinema and related horror imagery, presenting the genre as a physical space rather than just a shop floor.

A key feature is Slashback Video, a permanent, ticketed exhibit installed within the venue. Styled as an idealised video-store environment, it centres on horror VHS culture and nostalgia, turning the once-everyday ritual of browsing tapes into something curated and almost museum-like. The presentation leans into the uncanny comfort of analogue horror: rows of lurid cover art, fictionalised lore, and the sense of a “haunted” archive built from entertainment associated with fear, violence, and obsession.

The site’s darker appeal is rooted in how it commercialises the aesthetics of simulated death and menace. By translating fictional killers and cinematic violence into collectibles and staged spaces, it reflects the modern afterlife of horror as fandom, ritual, and spectacle—an environment where the line between playful nostalgia and fixation on the macabre is intentionally blurred.
