Museum of Witchcraft and Magic

In the coastal village of Boscastle, Cornwall, the Museum of Witchcraft and Magic stands as a unique institution dedicated to the history and practice of witchcraft and magic. Founded in 1951 by Cecil Williamson, a British screenwriter and occultist, the museum has evolved over the decades to become a repository of over 3,000 objects and 7,500 books and manuscripts related to European witchcraft, folk magic, ceremonial magic, and Wicca.

The museum's exhibits encompass a wide array of artifacts, including ritual tools used by notable figures such as Aleister Crowley and Gerald Gardner, as well as items associated with cunning folk and traditional witchcraft practices. One notable exhibit is 'Joan's Cottage,' a reconstructed 19th-century cunning woman's room complete with herbs, divination tools, and a mannequin representing a traditional practitioner.

Despite facing challenges, including damage from the 2004 Boscastle flood, the museum has remained a significant cultural and historical site. It serves not only as a tourist attraction but also as a research center, with a library accessible to scholars and enthusiasts.
