In the medieval town of Gruyères, Switzerland, the HR Giger Museum occupies part of a 400-year-old château—now transformed into a gateway to the mind of one of the world’s darkest visual artists. Best known as the designer of the Xenomorph in Alien, Hans Ruedi Giger devoted his career to fusing flesh, bone, machine, and sex into a haunting biomechanical dreamscape.
The museum houses drawings, paintings, sculptures, and film props spanning Giger’s entire career, including original concept art from Alien, Dune, and Species. Many works are erotic, disturbing, and deeply psychological. Rooms feel more like the corridors of a living organism than a gallery, full of themes exploring birth, death, isolation, and the merging of man with machine.
Just across the courtyard is the HR Giger Bar, a biomechanical lounge where ribcage arches, vertebrae ceilings, spinal columns, and fossilised furniture immerse visitors in Giger’s world. You don’t sit at a table—you sink into a spinal throne beneath an alien cathedral of bone. Every inch feels designed for Xenomorph royalty.
