House of Terror

A chilling museum in Budapest that once served as the headquarters for the fascist Arrow Cross Party and later the communist ÁVH secret police, where countless victims were interrogated, tortured, and executed.

Located on Andrássy Avenue, the House of Terror (Terror Háza) stands as a haunting memorial to Hungary’s brutal past. Originally used by the Arrow Cross Party during World War II, this building became the headquarters of the communist State Protection Authority (ÁVH) after the war. Inside, prisoners were detained, interrogated, and subjected to torture. Many never left its walls alive. Today, the museum preserves these dark memories through harrowing exhibits, including original prison cells, interrogation chambers, and a reconstructed execution room in the basement.

The museum's exterior is marked by a striking black iron facade with the word 'TERROR' casting shadows onto the street, a chilling reminder of the atrocities that took place inside.
