Dunluce Castle

Dunluce Castle stands on a rocky outcrop along the Antrim coast, its crumbling ruins overlooking the turbulent waters of the North Atlantic. Built in the 13th century by the MacQuillan family and later seized by the powerful MacDonnell clan, the fortress was a stronghold of power, ambition, and conflict for centuries.
The castle is infamous for its dark legends. In 1639, part of the kitchen collapsed into the sea during a storm, with servants plunging to their deaths. Dunluce was also said to be haunted by the banshee of the MacDonnells, whose cries foretold death and disaster. Its location on sheer cliffs, accessible only by a narrow bridge, has always added to its aura of danger and isolation.
Abandoned in the late 1600s, the ruins still evoke a sense of desolation and foreboding. Visitors can explore the remnants of the great hall, towers, and courtyard, while imagining the battles, betrayals, and tragedies that once unfolded here. Dunluce Castle remains one of the most atmospheric and haunting ruins in Ireland.
