Dragsholm Slot – Denmark’s Haunted Castle Hotel

Standing in the quiet countryside of Zealand, Denmark, Dragsholm Slot is a striking white castle with an unsettling past. Built in the 13th century, it served as a medieval fortress, noble residence, and later a prison for political enemies. Today, it functions as an upscale hotel—but some guests come less for the fine dining and more for the ghosts.

Dragsholm is reputed to be one of the most haunted places in Europe, with over 100 reported spirits. The most infamous is the White Lady, believed to be the ghost of a noblewoman who fell in love with a commoner. Her father discovered the affair and had her bricked up alive in the castle walls. Her skeleton, still in a white dress, was allegedly found during renovations in the 20th century.

Other apparitions include the Grey Lady, thought to be a former servant who still helps guests in silence, and the Bishop of Roskilde, who was imprisoned in the castle by the Danish crown and is now said to wander the halls in heavy robes and chains.
