Củ Chi Tunnels

Just northwest of Ho Chi Minh City lies the Củ Chi Tunnels, a sprawling, claustrophobic underground maze once used by the Viet Cong during the Vietnam War. Stretching over 200 kilometers, the tunnels formed an intricate, three-level system of trapdoors, living quarters, command centers, booby traps, and escape routes.

The tunnels allowed guerrilla fighters to move unseen, ambush American troops, and disappear without a trace. Life underground was brutal—heat, darkness, insects, and near-constant threat of bombing made survival a daily challenge. Entire communities existed beneath the earth for years, emerging only at night.

Today, visitors can crawl through reconstructed sections, see hidden entrances, and observe deadly traps once used in defense. Exhibits show how kitchens dispersed smoke, how soldiers treated wounds in underground hospitals, and how the jungle became a shield for resistance.

Visiting the Củ Chi Tunnels is not just a history lesson—it’s an unnerving encounter with the lengths people will go to fight and survive in the face of overwhelming odds. The silence underground is deafening, and the walls still seem to whisper the ghosts of war.
